SECURITY LABELS AND TAGS HELP RETAILERS INCREASE THEIR BOTTOM LINE!

Posted by: barcodelady on: February 21, 2011

You don’t have to have a complete EAS system to make them think you do.  Stop customer and employee theft with simple labels and tags that make them think they will get caught if they steal from you!  With all the products walking out the door that you don’t know about, you could take that money and hire another employee or better yet take a vacation!   A simple addition to your labeling efforts can save you $$$$.  We have security  labels that you can adhere to products so customers think they are part of a security system or you can purchase our blank  labels that run through your current Zebra or cognitive Blaster printer that will include a security antenna.  You don’t have to double tag with a security label and sarcodes label its one label for both.  Reuseable hard tags and tags that squirt ink if taken off without the proper detacher are also available.  Why steal from a store that has these items in place.  It’s not worth the risk.  A small investment can save you a lot.  If  you’re looking for a cost-effective way to decrease theft and increase profits call The Barcode Lady at 800-827-9695.  If you have ideas that will help other retailers share them here!

I’m so tired of my printer eating up ink!

Posted by: barcodelady on: February 21, 2011

Everyone has been complaining about these low cost printers eating ink. It’s almost cheaper to buy a new printer with the starter ink than to purchase a ink cartridge. Many of my customers have compained about replacing their ink and toner cartridges that I have decided to help out. So stop yelling at the kids for printing Justin Beber posters out on your home color printer and start buying your ink wholesale. A new website TheInkSpotLady.com can help ease the pain.

So you want to automate your inventory?

Barcodes and barcode readers make tracking inventory easy and accurate. However, there are many inventory software programs to choose from.  How should you decide which inventory software meets your needs? Software can be expensive, but with clever insight into your business needs, you can find the right solution at a reasonable cost.  Here are three easy steps to get you started.

Step 1: What type of goods do you plan to track?  There’s a huge difference between tracking nuts and bolts versus food products.  Ask yourself these questions:

■Are my products already barcoded? If not, the inventory software needs the ability to produce barcode labels.
■Do I need to satisfy any regulatory requirements? If so, the inventory program will require tracking attributes like “Lots, Expiration Date or Serial Numbers”.
■How do I handle my inventory?
Knowing your basic inventory practices will prevent you from under buying while avoiding over buying. Create a simple flow chart or list of notes detailing how your inventory comes in and how your inventory goes out. Mapping the process becomes invaluable as you select a solution.

Step 2: Determine your budget.

■How much can you spend?  Whether you are a small business or a large business, there is only so much in the budget. Be careful; if you’re only shopping on price without taking into account the business process and growth, you may find that what you bought fails to meet your short and long term needs.

Step 3: Understand the technology.  Barcode technology uses a barcode reader, a computer and software. So, what level of technology do you need? Everything has a cost but the cost is usually offset by a high return of labor savings and accuracy.

■Simple: If you’re a small business, consider a simple inventory software solution that uses a personal computer (PC) with a barcode reader that is tethered to the PC. These are very simple and low cost applications that are designed to manage very small inventories.
■Batch Handheld: If you are a small to medium sized business, consider an inventory control application that includes a batch handheld application. The batch handheld is a portable device with a built-in scanner that allows you to perform inventory operations from the device. . Many inventory software programs are built to use a batch portable device to collect inventory data.
■Real Time: Whatever your business size, if you need accurate and up-to-date inventory information at any time to meet your business needs, consider an inventory control application that incorporates Radio Frequency (RF) technology. The RF portable device allows you to perform inventory operations from the device and update your main database with the information in real-time. Many inventory software programs are built to use a RF portable device to collect inventory data.

If you shop wisely, you should have every expectation that you will reduce the use of paper and the errors caused by human entry mistakes! This means better customer service, better inventory control, less time spent chasing down problems, and faster production times. That equals a very good return on your investment.
